Sinks and Faucets. Thursday , February 01st , 2018 - 09:06:08 AM
"For something you touch several times a day, why not pick a finish for your faucet that will make you feel good? People will notice if you put in an unimpressive faucet," says Peter LaBau, a Charlottesville, Va.-based architect whose book The New Bungalow Kitchen, from Taunton Press, offers great ideas for quality kitchen design. Peter just remodeled his own master bath, for which his finish of choice was nickel. "I‘m a big fan," he says. When bonded to brass, nickel plating reveals a golden luster that standard chrome plating does not.
Accommodating sink accessories. De Giulio Kitchen Design offers a trough granite sink that is made to carry a variety of accessories. Offsets in the granite hold a teak cutting board, which fits over the sink. Underneath and also resting on additional granite offsets is another level of accessories: a colander, a draining rack, and a cutting block holding knives. Holes can be drilled in the back of the sink for any type of faucet accessory. A spray hose is one of the most useful since it helps clean these larger sinks.
Rear-positioned drains: A rear-positioned drain offers more usable bowl space, and as the plumbing underneath is set further back, also adds the benefit of under-counter cabinet storage.
